Thanks, Moonlight, but I just don't think I'm talented in that way ... and when I look back at my art classes that was what I was judged on.  And, other people answered my question up there, agreeing that if they could not draw or paint in the conventional way, they did not find their art lessons enjoyable.  


 


My belief is that we are ALL artistic in some way and art lessons should allow people to discover HOW they are talented, rather than restrict them to narrow means of judgement.  


 


I'm probably a bit indignant about this because exactly the same thing that happened to me, happened to my son.  He didn't "conform" and he was told that he was "useless" at art.  He still believes this ... and it's sad.  Sure, he can't draw well, just like me, but he can combine colours with amazing skill.  But, he doesn't do art any more because he had the enjoyment of it sucked out of him.
