In regards to recent posts about labels on quilts on extra special ones I not only sew them into the corner of quilt but also before quilting so they become quilted along with the backing,
I also keep a "providence" of each quilt, take pics of fabrics as I choose them and then a pic of completed top then another when quilting and binding is done. I have a little external hard drive that i keep this info
That way if there is any dispute over ownership I know when I made it and who it was made for and its very hard to remove a quilted in label

Re the providence issue - mine is not quite the same, but for many years, I have kept exercise books, into which I staple fabric samples, pattern/design names, date of completion & photos.
Over the years I've made my kids clothes, sunhats, bags of all types, table runners, cushions, event clothing like wedding outfits for my DD's & communion dresses.
As a result I have quite a few exercise books of stuff. It's lovely to look back & see how much I've done. And satisfying to see the different things I've taught myself to do & skills I've mastered. And disasters I've resurrected!...
I also have a 'album' in our computer of pics of my stuff, both progress pics & pics of completed item.
I put a label or marking on every item I make.

I just do it! Maybe I should keep records? Nah.....I do it for me. In 5 years the dog will have eaten them no doubt, but they will have served their purpose...a gift of love and time n, IMO to be used, loved and abused......

But I guess if I was a serious quilter, which I never will be, I would be doing what sewinggilly does.
I just like to label my work, in the same way kids always put their names of their paintings at school. I especially do it for when I give something I have made as a gift.

I'm thinking about making some hexagon flowers to embellish a project I'm planning...
I will be using the hexagon shaped papers, but I'm confused about stitching the fabric around those papers.
When I'm tacking the fabric, do I stitch through the paper template as well? Or do I tack only the fabric?
I've looked at tutorials online, & I'm finding it a bit confusing.
I would be glad of any advice, thanks

You can of course do it without stitching through the paper, depends what you are comfy with 🙂

I think, because I'll be learning how to do this method, I'll try both ways, & see what I find best for me.
I was just wondering whether the good people here had a preferred method, or opinion either way.
Then if I like doing the hex's for the projects I'm planning, I might even start doing some more hex's & just hoarding them for a bigger project some time in the future...
thanks again azure
