But to infer the people involved in horse racing don't care about the horses is most unfair.
Not only is it unfair but it is also very, very wrong.
I have seen how the stable hands react to an injury to or death of a horse....and the owners and trainers are no better.
We sold a schoolmaster horse to a riding school and he was hit by a car coming back from the park. The current owner was not in the stables at the time so the Vet sent for my daughter to handle him while they treated him. Eventually they contacted the owner and my daughter came home....she was absolutely distraught. As soon as she arrived at the stables the next morning the Vet came over to tell her that the horse could not be saved...she was a wreck for weeks even though she had not owned him for many months.

Horses running that fast in wild only when the heard stampedes and is escaping from a predator. They are terrified and it is their instinct to be in the front because the predator is going to get th one that lags behind = sick or very young one. So when they seemingly want to win, it's just their survival instinct kicking in.
I love horses, I do know bit about horses; I did show jumping and dressage many years ago. I would love to have enough space to keep a horse, who would come and knock on the door in the morning the way my last horse used to do.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to fix broken leg on horse. They are heavy animals and they are up on their very fine legs most of the time; they sleep standing, they cannot get around on 3. They cannot be sedated and left on the ground because their lungs cannot function in that position. Racehorses often smash the bones in their pastern, and there is just nothing that can fix that.

i agree, horses are an animal that if it breaks a leg its difficult and probably impossible to fix in most cases.
i wont argue about that with anyone. but i do think if enough recources was put to finding a way to do it it might be able to be done. but it cant now.
there was a time even a dog rupturing a cruciate ligament in its rear knee was a death sentence. my last dog had 2 knee reconstructions and lived happily for many years afterwards. i'm sure there was a time when every vet said 'sorry mate, no treatment for this i'll have to put your dog down'.
anyway, so, we have a situation dont we?
what situation i hear you ask?
well, we know we cant mend broken legs in horses dont we? everyone agree on this point? oh i do hope you all do.
tee heee.......tee heee, wait for it......tee heee....
here it comes.....tee heeee......
WHY THE HELL DO WE MAKE HORSES DO SOMETHING THAT OFTEN CAUSES THEM TO BREAK their LEGS YOU BOZOS!
