There's a new baby possum out tonight....

It's been a slowly increasing belly bulge for the last couple of months...

I'd wondered if I'd ever see it....

But... Here I am! ha ha.

Mum's the really big possum - a head taller than everyone else, and judging from the way that little possum was stretching itself, she's also broader than the average possum... ha ha.

I think the rain over the last couple of days has cooled things off and Mum decided Okay, come and see what the world looks like...

So it has... ha ha.

It's too hot to get comfortable today....

Would you prefer red or white?

Yes... ha ha.

Of course now that the grapes have ripened, and are full of lots of sugary goodness, I can expect other little visitors to the garden... ha ha.

"That's a lot of magpies", I thought...

And then, slowly, it all became clear... ha ha.

I got a 6 by 4 trailer of pulverised chook manure to use in "improving" the soil...

What I didn't know was that lurking just below the surface were...

Little black beetles, Yum!

So I had to leave the trailer for the birds, and their friends, to pick over...

It's okay, I hadn't planned on working that afternoon, anyway... ha ha.

It's just light enough for me to make my way round the garden to top up the water dishes...

Thanks, birds, I topped them up half an hour ago...

Well, we were thirsty... ha ha.

Round I've gone, with the Toffee house being the last on the list...

I hefted the watering can, ready to tilt and fill when I noticed that there was a little face already occupying one side of the water dish...

Hello, Zoo... back again... Anyone'd think you liked it here... ha ha.

I put the watering can down and waited, giving her a bit of time to finish her drink...

I know, I know... the canopy is sagging so it's a bit of a squeeze to get from doorway to water dish, ha ha.

She had her fill and out she came, up the ramp, and at the top she very theatrically waggled her foot in the air - "You know what would be really good? Some kind of improvement... I can't think of a suggestion, but some kind of improvement would be really good...".

That's what I like... A clear assessment of the problem, and an equally straightforward solution... ha ha.

While we're about it...Do you know what else would be good?

If the bridge was lower... I can't quite reach out and tap you on the top of the head from here...

Or indeed climb onto your head...

Or jump onto your head... No, maybe you wouldn't agree with that idea... ha ha.

Or maybe all I want to do is sniff you, but either way I can't get close enough... ha ha.

I can probably manage some kind of otherwise unspecified improvement to, I think it's the ramp, rather than the bridge, who knows...?, but improving her chances of, at the very least, sniffing me, I don't know...

I imagine that possums, very much like cockatoos, grip, however lightly, in order to maintain balance...

Both species have claws, and no matter how gentle they might be... ha ha.

It adds a new dimension to the expression "pins and needles", ha ha.

When he was a young bloke my Grandfather killed a bear with his bare hands...

Snuk up behind it and pushed it off the cliff, easy as that... ha ha.
