Apparently it made the heady heights of 27 degrees, today...
And most of us barely noticed.... ha ha.
But someone did...
Someone young, for whom 27 degrees is bordering on a heatwave, ha ha.
I saw her poke her little head out of the possum house, very grateful for the conveniently placed water dish, and drink...
And drink... and drink... ha ha.
It's hot work being a little possum... ha ha.
Then there was the one legged cockatoo...
I saw him standing on the bridge, on his one leg, and thought it was a bit strange...
I don't think I've ever seen a cockatoo with only one leg.
He hopped, hop-hop-hop, over to the water dish and had a quick drink...
Then he hop-hop-hopped back along the bridge...
Well, I thought.... He seems to be coping pretty well, but I bet there's times when he'd like to have a second leg...
And then, the elusive second leg appeared from under his feathers, and was lowered gently to the bridge...
Cheeky little man, cheeky, cheeky little man... ha ha.
There goes my anecdote about an unusual cockatoo... he hasn't left me with a leg to stand on... Oh come on, I had to say it... ha ha.

I was very surprised to see the Echidna walking down the street towards me as I reversed my car out of the driveway.
Echidna's are relatively common here and I have seen them getting about but it was the first time on my property even though I see the little nose holes in parts of the garden especially this time of year where it's not soaking wet and the ground is still soft.
I have a resident possum too and I have seen it but mainly I here it's impersonation of a much larger animal as it runs across my roof

There's a tree beside the house with a thin branch that reaches over to the roof...
The "tree half" of the branch is fairly sturdy, but the "house end" is thin, and flexible...
So the possums have worked out that the trick is to go half way along the branch and then leap the three or four feet necessary to reach the roof...
It must've been one of those times when I've been out that they've managed to get into the house, armed with notebooks, pencils and tape measures...
They've done their calculations, inside and out, and determined the optimum point on which to land on the roof...
Just there...
Right above the bedroom...
Right above where I'm sleeping... ha ha.
Now, in the darkness, we watch the windows...
When the lights go out we'll give him about half an hour to drop off...
And then we'll drop in... ha ha.
I'm drifting off into blissful slumber, and then there's an almighty thump on the roof....
And if you're really lucky, someone's chasing someone else, so there'll be two almighty thumps... and the thunder of "little" feet across the roof, to accompany it... ha ha.
I had thought about having the roof sealant painted, but I'd want the paint to dry within the day...
It's not that little wet paint footprints on the pergola roof would worry me, unduly, it's the little wet paint footprints on the car that might be harder to explain... ha ha.

What I say and what the possum hears...
I said - "These were going cheap at the supermarket so I thought I'd try them out... I'll give you four, just to see what you think, and then I'll have the rest...".
They heard - "I got these for you...", ha ha...
