I've learnt over time not to leave bread unattended...
They tend to grow big white wings and disappear off to the far end of the garden, to be devoured... ha ha...
In the absence of cockatoos, as I discovered today, the wattlebird is more than happy to step in, but rather than take the bread away, he stood on it and shredded it... ha ha...
Shortest day of the year? And that's determined by when the Sun rises and sets?
So it was yesterday... or today... or tomorrow... or the day after that... ha ha.
I'll be happy to accept that it's the Solstice when I see a bunch of Pagans dancing around a bonfire on the local school oval... ha ha...
Of course, with the EPA being so strict on these things, it wont be a bonfire but will probably be lit by a mobile phone with a flickering flame wallpaper... Or, for the budget minded, a Coleman lantern with coloured cellophane sticky taped to it... ha ha...
Welcome, Solstice... Now we're one day closer to whining about how hot the weather is, ha ha....
It was only minus 4.9 last night... hardly worth a mention, ha ha...

There was a break in the overcast, earlier this evening...
It seems like it's been grey skies, day and night, for the last week or so, ha ha...
One narrow band of sky cleared, filled with stars...
The old man birds, who have found their place in the sky, were looking down and smiling...

I was taking a couple of quick measurements for a rectangular plate that I want to put in between a couple of the bridges...
"About so much by about so much... Add a bit either way for fastening... No worries..."...
I put the tape measure down on the bridge and went to grab a slip of paper to scrawl some numbers on...
It's a smallish, light weight tape measure, nothing much, but it does the job...
Apparently it does another job, too...
It makes an excellent cockatoo toy... ha ha...
Did you know that if you hold it, and pull on this tab, that a long yellow piece comes out? And if you let it go it retracts and makes a satisfying " Whizz - Thud!" noise?... ha ha...
It's got a belt clip on the side, which makes it very grippable...
And nearly impossible to get back from the bird...
"It's Mine, now, and I am not letting it go... At least not until I get bored with it...", ha ha...
