Seriously, whenever, at least we know these rellies don't go away.
I often wonder what would they think if they knew we were able to recall them back from the past on a computer and that instead of just being a passing name in a history book, if they were lucky, or just a faint memory in a family, they are here again in full life and colour for us.
I wonder if my future rellies will find me and what will they be using? A computer or something else we don't even know exists yet. I have been able to go back 1,000 years... what will the world be like in 1,000 years and who will be related to me?
No I don't delete them permanently happyroo, I simply put them back into 'people' where they stay until I find if they are going to fit somewhere else.
I also keep a lot of what I read and research in a separate folder on my desktop so I can refer to it again.
So much to think about isn't there. No matter what they did they give us a sense of belonging in a way I don't think we usually have.
I think of the thousands of people who have no established backgrounds at all. Lost parents, adoption, abandoned babies ... so many people who cannot do this. We are so lucky.

Hi everyone, thankyou to Blackcatt for telling me about this great thread. I'm only up to page 8 so far but getting some great tips.
Something I noticed early on was about some of the dutch etc names
e.g Johann Van Der XXXX or Van Den XXXX
Van Der or Den simply means 'family of'. When many families immigrated they lost the 'family of' section of their surname so it is well worth searching for plain old XXXX. Hope that makes sense.

and when it comes to Norway, Denmark and Sweden, look for 'Halfdansson' his father will be "Halfdan".
Or 'Halfdansdotter' will be the daughter of 'Halfdan'
They also use the mother's names the same way, so if you have a 'Halfdansson' with a father named 'Fred' it will be wrong :^O
Also no 'Mrs.' or 'Miss' , those didn't exist.
I had a bother today. I have found a 32nd g.grandmother married twice and in each case her childred - half brother & sister went their separate ways and many generations later their descendents married up and so I now have a grandmother who is the 32nd g.grandmother on one line and 34th g. grandmother on another line.
I spent some time with Ancestry on the phone and we finally decided that the only way of keep the record straight was to 'pretend' the grandmother was 'new' to each line. That way she was seen as 32nd in one line and 34th in the other... if you follow me :^O

I am having trouble with a number of rellies who have had more than one child who have married again and again and again and now when their parents turn up they are "this is your 35th Grandfather" on one line and "This is your 46th Grandfather" on another line...
If I try to combine them they throw tantrums 😞
