There is a very good article in The Guardian that makes exactly that point, Freddie.

Almost everything we think we know about this couple is filtered through journalists. It is unusually difficult to judge the reliability of most royal reporting because it is a world almost devoid of open or named sources. So, in order to believe what we’re being told, we have to take it on trust that there are currently legions of “aides”, “palace insiders”, “friends” and “senior courtiers” constantly WhatsApping their favourite reporters with the latest gossip. It has been known to happen. Maybe they are, maybe they aren’t. We just don’t know.

But trust . . . . . is further compromised by the fact that none of the major players filtering this story for our consumption is exactly a disinterested bystander. All three of the major newspaper groups most obsessed with Harry and Meghan are themselves being sued by the couple for assorted breaches of privacy and copyright. There is, to any reasonable eyes, a glaring conflict of interest that, for the most part, goes undeclared.

Thanks ele

It's really sad but I feel sure Harry's mother would be very proud of his stance

and the efforts he's made to protect Meghan and Archie. Sadly his own Father

failed dismally in protecting his Mum from the vulchers who hounded her.

I think the largely meaningless protocols and etiquette governing every single aspect of life in the Royal Family would be very hard to cope with for someone eho has spent 10 years in the army - including two stints in a war zone - and mixed pretty freelyy with people from all walks of life.

I have great respect for the Queen and I can see the value of a Constitutional Monarchy. As my dad liked to point out, a Constituional Monarch occupies a position that nobody else can fill. In other words, if you have a King or Queen as your titular head of state, you can't have  a Hitler, a Stalin or even - dare I say it - a Trump. Rightly or wrongly though, the institution has become an anachronism in the modern world and I doubt very much whether it wil outlast the next incumbent.

Here's another good article showing how biased and unfair the press have been to Megan.....

Side-by-side headlines make it starkly clear: The tabloids had it in for Meghan

In light of the link I posted in #51, to a Guardian article pointing out the lack of named sources in media coverage of 'Megxit' check out the following little gems from News.com:

But sources say Harry is still at odds with his father Prince Charles, The Sun reports.

A senior royal source said: “William and Harry have spent time together privately away from the official Sandringham Summit working on their relationship and discussing their future.

sources close to the brothers say Harry remains at loggerheads with Prince Charles and Camilla following several disagreements.

The insider added: “It’s fair to say that the past week has brought William and Harry back together, but the relationship with Charles and Camilla is far more complicated and complex.

There remains a real lack of trust there, and it’s going to take some time to resolve,” the insider said.

Some senior courtiers are furious the Queen included certain concessions to the couple after their friends issued threats in the media of damaging tell-all TV interviews.

But a senior Palace source said: “Of course, the aim was to get the issue resolved by the end of Friday.

The aide stressed the Queen’s reference to the “challenges” and “intense scrutiny” Harry and Meghan had faced was not a criticism of the media.

The source said: “The Queen was actually making the point that if you want to remain in the royal family, that scrutiny is part of the job.

Friends of Harry and Meghan praised the Queen for bringing the whole family together in her eventual solution.

One said: “In agreeing to this agreement, the Queen has single-handedly evolved the monarchy.

Insiders stressed Meghan was also still intending to become a British citizen – but admitted those plans could change.

A courtier said: “These are uncharted waters. The transition starts today and there is much to work through.

And this is what we are supposed to accept as reliable information!!!

What a shame there isn't a requirement for truth in reporting.

Mind you, if we can't expect it from the politicians, then how can we expect it from the press?

I just can't see the papparazzi letting them go anything soon.

It could make them more a target?

True....but they might just be able to retaliate now that they are their own people and not bound by the constraints of protocol - at least, I hope so

Also, it really is the British press that are the worst so living outside the UK should help a bit.
