where has this new (to me anyway) term come from?

i keep hearing people being interviewed saying "Up Tick" about things.

blah blah blah thats an Up Tick!

to me its a new bit of spin wording dreamt up by a media relations person teaching pollies ect how to answer questions

"throw in a few ""Up Ticks"" mate, just to make ya point its a great idea"

Been around for a while.

As in there has been an "uptick" of new buyers,non payers etc.

I've never heard it before.

There seem to be new buzzwords every day, I certainly keep track of them.

Sounds like something American. I hate these buzzwords as suddenly they are used ad nauseum.

I mean Up Tick? Clearly you can't have a Down Tick.

My other pet hate is 'Going Forward' tacked on to the end of statements (much loved in businesses and sport).

What's the reverse comment - Going Backward? Actually that would do to describe the government.

That would explain it they can't even spell and have changed them to their version of the Enlish language and

there are lots of words that have been added to dictionaries.

Most of them are from US "speech" including slang words.

They include of variation of different current words so could become a nightmare for schooling.

American professional jargon from 1938 , not street American slang .

of financial services - means a small increase upwards or improvement ie " increase in the price of a financial instrument since the preceding transaction"
