The Important Things in Life Aren't Things

Can remember vividly the day Kenneday was assinated and of course the day the man walked on the moon.

Who could forget the men going off to war in Nam and them coming home and the way they and us their wives were treated and all the Americans on R and R in Brisbane. Brisbane used to fairly jump with all the boys in town.

In those days a woman either on her own or with a friend could easily go out in Brisbane and not have to worry about some idiot causing issues.

Can remember working in Brisbane all day on the road in a suit and no air conditioning and having to totter around on high heels to building sites etc etc.

Morning JV 🙂  you're aboard early, getting in more gardening before it heats up?

Yes I also remember clearly where I was when I heard Kennedy had been assassinated, and the man on the moon... Nam and the awful way our boys and wives were treated on their return, that was shameful.

Why do people forget it isn't the private man in the street that was responsible for being sent off, it was the Government?  My step brother went and is still affected.

Blimey JV, what was your job?  Brisbane in a suit and high heels in summer 😮  I'm impressed.

Well 5am is far too early to be up, who else finds they can't sleep after about 5 am?

I used to get tuppence for each returned bottle.

I also used to dive for money from the Manly Wharf.  The tourists used to throw in coins and we would dive for them.  Dangerous when the ferry was coming in. We stored the coins in our cheeks.  I was only a kid.  If my mother had known she would have had a fit.

I remember the kids diving for money off the Manly wharf.  Wuz one of 'em you freshwater 🙂  I used to 'ferry hop' going from Neutral Bay where we lived and changing ferries all round the harbour not paying anything - that was fun.

Who remembers the war ships arriving in Sydney?

You just about squeeze in corgi, but you're still a Boomer :^O

LIke my mother you were born in a convenient year for remembering how old you are, she was born in 1910 and it was easy to just subtract 10 years from the current date... hence today she would be 102!

waves madly to all the super seniors...........great thread darkie 😄

im only a baby boomer, but my mum 1931 & dad 1928 are definately golden oldies

mum is 82 next month but sadly has dementia (still in the early stages thank god, so she still has good days)  a few other health problems......but she still madly potters around in her garden and in the kitchen

dad is doing great for 83, still plays 2-3 rounds of golf a week, does a fantastic job looking after mum, has his market garden in the backyard and is always zooming around mowing someones lawns....... even the grandkids have trouble keeping up with him

Hi ya lill shazz... great to see you here.  Good on your dad, how hard for him knowing he is slowly losing your mum and hard for her in the early days... glad she still enjoys the garden.  I hope I am still as fit as your dad in the next 10 years 🙂
