The point is not whether anyone will miss Trump at the inauguration but the fact that it is a break with tradition.

The attendance of the two Presidents symbolises the smooth transition from one Administration to the next.

But hey, why would Trump want to follow tradition now?

He seems to be out to cause as much disruption to democracy in the United States as possible.

I feel sorry for the average American who can see what the man is doing to their country.

I don't envy Joe Biden's job of having to reinstate the USA's standing in the world.....Trump has certainly trashed it.

Oh well, it would probably be appropriate that Trump NOT attend because it is no use pretending this has been a smooth transition from one admin to the next. It has been anything but. If he doesn't believe he came a solid second, if he believes he was cheated, then probably he shouldn't attend.

There is one silver lining in all the recent chaos though. It seems to have accomplished what nothing else did.

Even Trump realised things got a trifle overheated and he seems to have backed off from any more incitement. Silence, blessed silence.

It also seems (from here, anyway) that we're finally seeing some sort of united feeling in USA that enough is enough or perhaps even a tad too far.

I don't think Trump has finish yet. He has never ever accepted defeat (right back to the days when the apprentice didn't win a Emmy-it was all a fraud), So I think there is much more that Trump will attempt  to achieve his" place in history"

luckily trump knows where all the holes are in the mexican wall

oh dear we are so precious - sorry if some use logic and commentary that is in context to the actual subject society

Unless you currently reside in America, you have no real idea of how the subject society works.

You haven't shown any evidence of logic, and your commentary doesn't align with the facts.

I suspect you think 'precious' is a ring in a fictional series of books.

You obviously base your accessments on current media editing , probably the ABC , presented for Australian prospectives

4,262 Police stationed in DC - and not enough could be found to guard a sitting session of the Senate during a known protest event ? really ? real concern there

You obviously have no working knowledge of US law. So your logic and commentary is, by definition, not based on fact. She-ele has even given you links to the relevant laws. Did you read them? Do you think you know Trump's mind (scary)?

It's 'perspectives', not 'prospectives'. Anybody with a computer can fact check their spelling and whether the word they are using is actually the one they mean. That might be too hard for some. Trump wouldn't, so maybe you do have an insight into his mind.

Was talking about law enforcements response ( they could not stop the vandalism ,souveniring and disruption of Government process by a tiny minority ) and noting the relatively placid manner of the mass of the assembled multitudes - relative to American standards of mass public violence

Trump was more or less changing the economic dynamics from lowest cost items without regard to local employment to that of local manufacturing and fuller employment ( without regard to lowest unit cost ) - then covid disrupted everything

Oh, he certainly has won his place in history, I doubt anyone will be allowed to forget his childish and disrespectful actions.

He has gone down in history for all the wrong reasons, idiotic simple minded fool LOL

Oh I agree, we haven't seen the last of him.

But the main point is that we are close to the hand over of power. And I think we will see him back off from actively suggesting any marches or protests before then.

I think we have to put this in perspective. When Trump won, we saw massive whingeing for months afterwards. I would say the Democrats were very sore losers. They did everything they could to disrupt and denigrate him.

They complained about the voting process too, although it is the same sort of process that had been in place for years and no one had ever bothered to tweak it in the meantime, so tough luck, basically. If you know something is not quite right, fix it when you are in power. They had had the previous 8 years.

The only thing we didn't see was this level of violence.

So the squawking and squealing that 'it's not fair' is about par for the course lately in American politics. But we need to see the physical violence level turned down a few notches.

This last year, it seems to have been the protest method of choice over there.

Once Trump is no longer in power, I think it will be a fait accompli as far as the presidency goes and I suspect things will calm down a bit.

Trump won't disappear. I don't know what he'll do. Probably something to do with business. But to save face, he may just keep with the announcement that he will run again in 2024, bigger and better than ever. That's fine. A week's a long time in politics and 4 years when you are in your mid 70s, anything can happen. In fact I am not even sure how Biden will fare for the 4 years, let alone who else will be in the political ring by that time.
