Howard's been gone for 13 years. The current, or even 2017, situation is not down to him but to the CURRENT government. And their predecessor.

He could be gone for another 13 years but his foul legacy, the ignorance, apathy towards people of colour and bigotry he represented will be around for decades.

Quite probably. But it has nothing to do with the current iteration of the cashless welfare card. You should know that. After all you are the one constantly complaining when threads go off-topic. Like you are attempting to do to this ancient one.

Hey man, this is on topic OK. See below.
______________________________________________________
In 2007, the John Howard government perpetuated the invidious outrage that came to be known as the “Northern Territory intervention”. The Northern Territory National Emergency Response included the introduction of the Basics Card, which has since morphed into the Indue Cashless Welfare Card.

I've just added that this was basically for the public eye as the general feeling is that little whatever did .... not ... give .... a .... stuff ... about the indigenous folk. Not one bit!

Hey man, no it's not. In 2021.
The thread is years old, and it's about the cashless welfare card, not about Howard. It's about the cashless welfare card in 2021. Or maybe 2017, when the last relevant post was made. Either way, long after Howard.

As a person who is not on the cashless welfare card and also lives in a trial area I can confidently say the card does not work for the purpose it was intended. It is divisive and wrecks small town community spirit by dividing the community which in turn just causes more problems over all. If it were not for the over the top policing efforts in the trial areas the card would have shown to be a failure long ago.

I mostly agree with what you have stated here. It is very divisive and this is because of the reasons you gave as well.

You speak of open and honest discourse. Well Poobah to that. When your own government won't be honest with the people where does honesty come into it. There was a complete media blanket in Ceduna and the public only heard what the govt wanted them to hear. The lies in the paper that there were only two or 3 people against the Trials in Ceduna were absolute outright lies.
