One is influenced to some extent by family from prior generations - in fact in some regards the influence is so strong a person can not be fully nationally culturally acclimatised into colloquial values (so to speak) unto 2nd generation born , as implied by more privileges granted from the country of origin for 1st generation born of foreign migrant parents  , than subsequent generations

I know that most people who are born into extreme wealth can never really embrace the values of the better part of our general society.

And so now We are One...

"Australia’s acting prime minister has sparked controversy for using a three-word phrase criticised for its racial insensitivity.

Acting Prime Minister Michael McCormack has been slammed for using a controversial phrase on racial injustice, which Labor has blasted as “beyond disgusting”.

Mr McCormack told reporters “all lives matter” on Tuesday, a phrase criticised for detracting from the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and the fight for racial justice.

The Nationals leader, who is filling in for Scott Morrison while he’s on holidays, used the phrase as he rejected criticism for comparing pro-Trump rioters’ attack on Washington’s Capitol to anti-racism demonstrations across the US last year."

So we are One, but not One and All when it comes to lives that matter. It seems we are now at the stage where looting, arson, violence and killing is understandable if it is for an honourable cause linked to racial injustice. And it is "beyond disgusting" if the movement slogan is altered to include all lives, when non-racial killings occur, such as those during the recent US Capitol riots

And we are One?

I don't think there's any doubt that McCormack is talking from his own prejudices, with an eye to outrednecking Barnaby.

It's a worry when he is PM. Given that Parliament sits for less than 6 months per year, why does the real PM feel the need for a holiday? He has many of them per year. If he thinks the requirements of the office detract from his family time, maybe he shouldn't have put his hand up.

Sorry, I forgot the ego bit.

That's fair enough, if that's your point of view. But I didn't post the comment from a political position. I couldn't care less who said it.

How is it not political?

Who said it's not political? But I'm interested in the issue.

You said you weren't interested in the political.

I can't read your mind, so I have no idea what your specific issue is. Other than it's apparently not political.

Wow! that's a big ask Springy. I'll do my best but you'll have to be patient, it's not something I (or even Old Blue) can dash off in a hurry.

My current thinking is, it doesn't really need 3 verses - as an anthem they'd never all be sung anyway. Maybe one verse incorporating lines or themes from the others and the chorus would be sufficient.

Old Blue has cast his eye over my first draft and tells me it needs more work ("It's p*ss weak, mate," were his actual words) In the meantime he thought you might like to see his version:

We’re the Dreamtime blokes whose rock art was the first ‘Australiana',

We’re the sheilas off that brothel ship, The Lady Juliana,

We’re the swaggies and the bushrangers who roamed the great outback,

And the sundowners who lost their way and perished on the track.

We’re the bludgers and the larrikins, the captains of the ‘Push’,

We’re the shearers we’re the miners, we’re the b*stards from the bush.

We’re the ten pound Poms, we’re migrants from each land beneath the sun,

And every bl**dy one of us is an Australian.

We are one but we are many etc.

And here's my own effort - a bit anaemic compared to Old Blue's, but it was the best I could do and says more or less the same thing:

We’re the nations of the dreamtime

We’re the convicts in their chains,

The drover and the ‘drover’s boy’,

The settlers on the plains,

And whether we were born here

Or we came across the foam,

We’re all Australians who call

This wide brown land our home.

We are one, but we are many ...etc

The good thing is you'll probably outlive Old Blue. Then you can claim his gems for your own. Smiley Wink
