Hyperbole?

Rats! You beat me to it Countess. I finally worked it out at around midnight. -  shoulda got up and posted then. It was the 'bole' bit that had me stumped.

hyper bully (broadcast = sounds like) = hyperbole, an embellished example

over to you countess 😊

great_she_elephant, yes, you had better race to the computer next time!

twyngwyn, that was an elegant cryptic clue. I enjoy all of the cryptic clues on this thread, with some particular favourites... Anyway, on we go to the next clue.

Sung mostly without legal authority, but this goes above a cravat to set up a canopy (1 word, 9 letters)

Another clue (in case it's needed)...

"Describe the cloth-bearer: beardless wonder."

coverture?

No, twyngwyn, that is not the answer. (I like it, but it's not the answer.)

Additional clue: without refers to something removed.

Yes, you have it.

Sung mostly without legal authority, but this goes above a cravat to set up a canopy

Sung = ballad

mostly without legal authority = remove most of law = la, hence ballad - la = bald

this goes above a cravat = a chin

to set up = makes the whole clue

canopy = baldachin

        and alternatively

"Describe the cloth-bearer: beardless wonder."

beardless = a bald chin

wonder = jumble this up

also a nod to the phrase “chinless wonder” to give an extra clue in the direction of chin

Describe = here’s the whole word clue

cloth-bearer = canopy

also a nod to another meaning for baldachin (i.e., embroidered cloth)
