You have probably heard many renditions of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata - or, to give it its most exact title, Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2.

 

But this performance by Annie Fischer is, to my mind, one of the greatest: faithful to Beethoven's intentions and immensely musical and intelligent.

Yes, it is a magnificent rendition - great both musically and emotionally. So many pianists play the Moonlight Sonata, and at first sight the first movement does not appear to be difficult, but to play it well is a real accomplishment.

I intended to post the Moonlight Sonata soon too. 🙂
