Mount Fuji (Japan)

IMG_0657.JPG

I've always loved this photo, it is actually of my son & his wife inside a cave in NZ.

No fancy camera equipment, no fancy lighting effects.

They said it was magical to see, but getting to this cave wouldn't be for everyone (read: me)

They had a personal guide and apparently it took 5-7 hours or some such ridiclous time, abseiling and crawling through narrow sections. No toilet breaks.

I'll show you some of what it takes to get there.IMG_0647 smaller.JPG

I'm not much of a photographer and I haven't captured how great the view was from here. It's China and I've tried to blank out the face of a friend.

It was seriously hot that day, 37c and not a blade of shade, heat bouncing off the bricks. I could only take about 30 minutes of climbing upwards in that heat and headed down soon afterwards.

But I remember that view.

This landscape would have inspired Van Gogh...

Rice terraces in Vietnam (Fotolia/AP photo)

It really looks like a Van Gogh painting with the bold lines... It's beautiful.

Is this your house?

Those terraces - astonishing! They have a wonderful quality about them, like a modernist painting with great swathes of curving colour.

I didn’t read your comment before posting mine, but the the lines and the sense of 20th century painting style struck you as well as it did me - interesting. It’s a great landscape photo.
