I was thinking after reading Scatty's post and some of the other posts about what a great little thread this is. It's lovely that we can support, encourage and say a friendly word to one another. Love this thread and thank you JV for starting it 🙂

It's been a long week here! but its all good. Took my girls to check out the special school for a day a week. DD16 would be ok there but DD 14 is so used to normal people she can not accept having to be put with some of the others there. Even though her IQ is in the 40's academically her social and emotional IQ are far higher. We are a bit stuck as to what to do the normal school don't want her, but for a day a week I feel like forcing them to take her.....
Anyway she begged me to not make her go there and I won't. Every section is cordined (sp?) off by huge gates, almost like a prison and it is purpose built for 50 kids but has 117.
DD nearly 16 could go a day a week between 10am and 3pm. Other than that she would have to be taken 20 mins down the road to go on a bus that takes 2 hours 4 all round so it would be close to 5 hours travel a day. Crazy really and people think I am mad for homeschooling lol
Anyway have decided to go through the assessments for funding and decide from there.

Bella is it possible to get an aide to assist your daughter at the school? must be extremely difficult.
Hi Rosie, yes she did have an aide. It would depend on the level of funding the dept gives. 18 months ago they dropped her level of funding to 12,600 a year (roughly) It only funded an aide two afternoons a week. Sadly they then turned around and said they did not want her. So when we moved we just homeschooled her.
The school up here are not interested although legally they can not refuse her, they will not ensure a duty of care. I was so desperate where I was before I trained to become a teachers aide and at times personally aided her quite happily.
Not all schools like you to do that but I have been flexible where I can and tried to work with schools to compromise. It will depend now on the level of funding they will give her this time. I'm just in the process of organising another IQ test through the departments independent phycs and an overall assessment.
It won't be easy but we will find a way to make it a positive experience for her.

Men can be soooo stubborn, JV if hubby doesnt go to the docs , threaten him with the doc making a home visit, they still do that if the need arises, that might get him going

Hows everyones week been...........we all seem to live such busy lives.
I sometimes reflect on what has to be done on a daily basis and wonder how i ever went and held down a high pressure job and got anything else done in my life lol.............
I have personally found that the one thing i would like to change about aging is the fact that the body does slow down a bit quite a bit......that is personally the hardest thing i find to cope with 😞
Have a fab day everyone..........have to get out and do a lot today and get the OH to the docs:)
