I think its absolutely ridiculous-what about workplace health & safety issues for starters ?
As for 'having the chance' to take a baby to work-???
If the mother is so peachy keen to work,get childcare.

I am not looking forward to having a baby crying the the background while I am trying to do my job.
No, it will sound like you are a harrased Mum working from home with a child crying in the background - not a good example for the business you work for.

The thing is with babies you can never tell when they will go on a crying jag or not be able to be soothed.

I read it as - OP you didn't have the offer/chance of taking your babies to work when they were new borns (if you had wanted to) so you don't like this mother having the chance to do so?
No way, I would not have done it anyway, work was a break from looking after kids. I dont see how you can work and look after an infant at the same time.
Paying for childcare is something you have to do in order to make your living, unless you have a kind relative.

I don't see the OP as narky as such. I would say most mothers of babies who want to go to back to paid work, even in 2013, would not have the opportunity to keep the baby in the corner of their office/workplace with them. If they did child care centre rooms for the under 12mths would be empty.
3 month old babies do not sleep as much in the day time as babies under 6 weeks either. Well, mine didn't. Maybe I got duds.

I did read it as you being envious ...... but not narky.
however, your reasons are valid ones. I am guessing there is no room for negotiation? so, if I were you, I would get cracking on those job applications.......and I hope you get a better position fast! in the meantime, ask her to take a crying baby out of the room when you are on the phone and at the first sign of a smelly nappy, hand the bin and ask her to remove it.
