That's Sendle making the suggestion, though, so the question of "why should the seller be responsible?" is one for them more than it is the OP. Either way it's a really poor response from any courier company / postal service, but Aus Post do it as well.
I would understand it more if they just said "contact the sender" because x, if the sender is the only one able to have an official investigation opened and (ultimately) compensation provided if applicable, but to straight up tell recipients to go and ask for a refund from the sender is setting up both parties for a difficult situation while Sendle attempt to wash their hands of it. I'd be peeved if I was the sender, anyway.

That is the point I was making Digi.....the seller is not responsible for the company contracted by Sendle to make the delivery having lost the parcel.
IMO if Sendle admit that they or their assigned courier have lost the parcel then it is up to them to make reparations....the sender should not be involved at all.
