Just had a thought that none of the AP's bright 'pay for delivery' idea makes a lot of sense to me.
Personally, mail delivery three times a week, which is 3 days out of 5 anyway wouldn't bother me at all, but tell me where is the sense in this scenario -
I don't care, I'll get my mail any time they deicde to pop it in may mailbox - but my neighbour decides she wants it every day.
How in hell is that going to help 'cut down' work for the posty man - so he will have her few letters on board every day and zip by me except on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday when I am allowed to receive mine.
Have I missed something ?
It wouldn't be the first time LOL
You can't please all the people all the time, so now I just please myself

I have a PO Box and was wondering the same thing as you.
When AP staff are sorting PO Box mail on Tues and Thurs will they put letters/parcels aside for PO Box holders who have chosen 3 day a week delivery?
If anyone can post a link to any articles regarding 3 day a week delivery OR paid-for delivery then please do. I would like to read more about this bright idea (or maybe Alice could come by and enlighten us).

Thats exactly correct, it will be the same workload on the postie, after all, he's still having to go past your box to do the "everday delivery '' ones regardless. Same wear and tear on the bike, which they are replacing with Chinese made models I must add, which are already having issues, which is verified by a contracted service shop that works on them. I have also heard from an internal source at AP that they are thinking about just having a central pickup point where everyone will have to get their mail from. Brilliant idea.....imagine the traffic and parking issues with that one. Like everything these days, topend management is too top heavy and the dollars coming in are soaked up at the wrong end of the chain, and the service side is supposed to just jack up the prices to balance the books.

maybe in the future the postie will do 3 day work doing 12 hour shifts so they are doing their normal hours over a week

While it will probably extend to all mail, AP are probably thinking parcel deliveries over standard mail, much of which isn't delivered by the normal postie and is likely to have greater import placed on it by the recipient (who will be shelling out the $'s for 5-day delivery).
TBH, I think AP have already been doing this to a certain extent for a number of years. I noticed that before I got my PO box, my parcels seemed to only arrive on certain days, all bundled together as though they were collected for a couple of days before being delivered (it was more noticable then because I ordered packages sporadically, but they never arrived sporadically). A similar pattern is noticable with my PO box, though slightly less so, as I do sometimes get parcels on Mondays and Wenesdays (the trip to the PO is much more likely to be worth the effort on Tuesdays and Thurdays, though - Fridays are 50-50).

Yes, I notice similar results with small OS packages, seem to get them in a bunch, like they are backing up a bit.

PO Box holders already pay $107+p.a. for the privilege of getting their mail placed in their PO box 5 days a week.

It will save on postie wages. If only a few people pay to have 5 day a week delivery, then it wont take long for the postie to do their round on the 'off days' for free delivery. There might be quite a few streets they don't have to go down.
There are not a lot of details about the proposed changes published yet. I have read they wont apply to rural deliveries.
Aust Post has to present its new corporate plan to the Govt in July, will hear more details then I guess.
