When you pay for an item by bank deposit (internet banking) you enter your bank account numbers in (from an account that is a debit visa/or mastercard account)
That isn't a debit visa/mastercard transaction is it?
( for non paypal transactions) To pay with credit or debit card you would have to be given an option to pay by merchant facility (or whatever the correct name is).
Is that correct?
No chargebacks on debit visa/mastercard unless 'credit' option is used (not savings or cheque).

"so I lodged dispute with paypal and gave seller a negative and no stars"
Leaving no stars has zero effect on a seller's star rating .
One star is the lowest star rating.

Yes am, that is right.
If you enter the bank account number then the money has come from your bank account. But if the account also has a Visa debit card attached to it and you enter the card numbers then it is treated as a credit card transaction with the appropriate buyer protection, even though the funds come straight from your bank account.

Can you enter visa debit card numbers (as opposed to bank account numbers) when paying by bank deposit option (for ebay purchase) though?

If it is a transfer through your bank account then you use the bank account number.
It is only when you pay through paypal that you have to option to use either bank account number or debit card number.
Oh, and the Mastercard debit card is not as good as the Visa debit card....they are a lot more selective with what they will chargeback.
I don't recommend anyone to rely on a Mastercard debit card at all.

The OP said they paid by bank deposit (not Paypal). So, unfortunately it would not be considered a visa or m/c debit card transaction and not be eligible for a chargeback. That is what I was trying to establish.
Also if a person buys an item at a shop via eftpos using their visa or m/c debit card, they would need to choose 'credit' rather than savings/chq to be able to request a chargeback later on, for legitimate reasons.
Handy tip about the mastercard debit card.

Oh good,I've been asked for a credit card before & was told that my Visa debit counted as one but wasn't sure on the chargeback part & if it covered that or it had to be a real, borrow money type credit card.I knew smarter peoples than me would drop in to add better info.I don't know that I've read much on here about refunds on Bank deposit/credit card.
So the O.P should be able to get her $ back & still does an INR
Oh i'm too slow just read am3's post about that.I hope the O.P posts about the bank's response tomorrow.

No, OP paid by bank deposit via her bank account not using the credit feature of a debit card (if she even has one) as that option isn't available when paying by bank deposit (the option given by sellers on eBay).
Debit cards have two options
Savings/cheque
or Credit
You can't choose credit when paying by bank deposit (internet or in person at bank) for an eBay item (non paypal transaction)

Read your edit, narelle. Yes, it would be good if the OP has other options, but I am afraid she doesn't (been there myself for a low value item).
The seller she bought from has a lot of older feedback saying very slow postage/delivery times, but the recent negs are for not sending the item at all.
It could be possible there was some hitch there....that may be sorted out?
