Maybe since old threads aren't deleted or closed or whatever, it might be better for the managers of the discussion boards to include the date of the first post in a column after 'author'.

Just a thought.

It would be good if they would do something but don't hold your breath.

We're often told that ebay doesn't read the boards but the mods certainly do and it has been suggested umpteen times that the very old threads should be locked. Converted to read only.

It wouldn't be rocket science for some techie to do, but it never happens.

That could be because the mods themselves have no power, I don't know.  They may not be managers or in a position to make suggestions to anyone higher up.

Whatever the case is, they have so far taken absolutely zilch notice of even the most sensible suggestions of members.

almost two years ago the eBay Community Manager (michelleoz) posted that old threads would be locked, and actually started locking some herself.

Unfortunately, it has been quite some time since michelleoz has visited these boards, and she (obviously) didn’t inform/direct/instruct Lithium mods of her commitment to lock old threads.

Well, here are screengrabs from a discussion thread started by michelle_oz about changes to the structure of these boards back in 2017:

My offer to do the job of locking threads was just a joke.

I posted a method that would quickly enable old threads to be locked:

I still think my method would work for a number of reasons.  The main one being that it makes sense, another being that mods seem to be on the other side of the world which would make locking threads during the wee small hours easy peasy.

The time michelleoz disappeared is when I got a private message from her lol regarding a matter that I have been dealing with for some time.

Hope she didn't get booted from ebay Woman Tongue
