Of course - because the person who is breaching policy is the BUYER, not the seller.


 


Why are you making purchases and then demanding postage discounts? The seller sets the prices... the buyer chooses to accept them or not. A buyer who acts in this way is breaking the eBay policy for Unwelcome and Malicious Buying...

"Problems" like this one are not actually problems. Buyers have numerous sellers and items and listings to choose from. They are free to choose whatever seller they prefer. If the seller quotes high postage prices, or doesn't offer combined postage discounts, or uses text of a colour that you find offensive then do the simple thing... DON'T BID.

I purchase many numismatic items on ebay and other sites.


The first thing I do with a new seller, is to ask them if they combine items for 1 postage cost.


I suggest you simply make this your new way ebaying.;-)

Good idea kopenhagen.  I have dont that before.  Messaged a seller first and asked if I bought two items, do they reduce postage on second.  They were quite willing to do it :).



To the OP.  While I definitely think a seller would be postage gouging if they send all items together but charged you separate postages for each item, you did buy the items separately.



You should have messaged seller before committing to buy and found out if he would combine postage.  If he was not willing, there are always more sellers willing to.  This is true of anywhere, not just ebay.

As I mentioned earlier, it's important to ask regarding discounted postage, not just combined. They do not mean the same thing and the difference is where many members come unstuck.

Here's a quirky scenario - buyer purchases 5 x single items - asks for 'combined etc' - Seller agrees - buyer pays paypal on combined invoice - parcel arrives - only 4 items in parcel - OMG - WTF does paypal do??? how can you prove how many/few were posted in ONE parcel ? 😮




There is an option via PayPal where either the package is empty or does not contain the total quantity purchased.



I don't know exactly what information etc each party needs to give PayPal, and I haven't seen any recent posts etc about such occurences, but in the past I have read a stories on the board - one concerned a seller who had a dispute opened against them (fraudulently) and lost (they knew the buyer's claim was fraudulent because they were re-selling the items they scammed), another from a buyer who received an empty package and had to jump through many hoops (including filing a police report, I think) before PayPal eventually decided in their favour.

Digital, I can tell you what happens if you claim Item Not As Described for a multiple item parcel....paypal insists on refunding for the whole parcel!!!!


I received a large parcel from the UK with several pieces of pottery...one was broken.  I opened a dispute because the seller was away on holidays and I needed to buy time for him to get back on line.  Unfortunately I needed to escalate so paypal took over.  As soon as the seller was back on line he found out what was going on and he offered a refund for the broken item, which I was happy to accept....BUT paypal insisted that he had to refund the lot, despite the fact that we both kept on saying that only one item was broken.


Of course I was supposed to send everything back.  We just let the dispute time out and he refunded the amount we had agreed on.  Thankfully he was a great seller, but it could have been very different if he was not willing to refund.

Thanks lyndal, I think I remember that - can I just ask what the selected reason for the dispute was? When you open INAD disputes, there's a few choices, with one being along the lines "the package is empty or order incomplete".

He REFUSED to pay, and now thinks he has the right to post slanderous comments etc.

 

Ebay remove it, and puts it right back there again ...

Yes, it is an old thread, you should have posted a new topic as your issue really doesn't have anything to do with postage.

 

First up, you can't name and shame. The mods will remove the name when they see it.

 

Did you open and close an unpaid item dispute for the buyer not paying? If you did, contact eBay (by phone) and they will remove the feedback. If you cancelled, it's unlikely they will remove it, but you can still try. If you neither cancelled or opened an unpaid dispute, open an unpaid dispute immediately. Then close it 4 days later. Then call eBay and tell them to remove the negative feedback and the associated defects.
