What's a reasonable amount of time to give a buyer before opening a non payment case in the resolution centre?

the minimum time ebay given to open a non payment dispute is 4 days. it would depend what you have in your terms though as well. I allow 5 days for payment after that I lodge a dispute.

At three days we send a friendly reminder. If we still hear nothing we open the case on day 4 and close it after four more days.

No, just 4 calendar days...to the minute.

There is no reason that buyers cannot pay at the weekends as paypal is open 24/7.
