@joztamps wrote:No, I think it's an actual fancy curtain rail, there are pictures of similar in google images, used for alcove type windows, and the ends screw off so they can slot into fancy doodahs at the end, set at right angles to the rail, then they would be screwed back into the doodahs from the other side.
Maybe.
I'd completely forgotten "doodahs"
could easily be a doohdah!

Hi, just a guess, but could it be a Bodhrun tipper?
Used by irish "Bodhrun" (drum) players,
and they come in many many shapes,
but all similar in style.
Don't know about th rings though,
thay might add to the sound created.
Google ( images) "bodhrun tippers".
Really just a guess though.
Regards,
John,

Good suggestion.
I'm thinking, a tool for threading something through something.
Perhaps load it up with rings having both ends on then when necessary take off one end and feed it through then take the other end off and feed it all the way through leaving the rings behind.
It could even require a wire or string up through the middle at the same time.

I wondered this too. Googled 'threading tools' images but no luck there

So this is what it looks like in its component parts. I've also taken off a ring to show you.
