none of my items have 'make an offer' but i'm open to negotiation.

but there are those who think i'm a charity.

heres my latest,

this morning got a message asking if id be open for an offer on an item i have listed for $75.

i replied 'sure as long as its not silly'

so a couple of hours later got his offer of $50, too low but he added he was interested in another of my items i have listed for $145.

so i replied his $50 offer was too low but id do the 2 items for $175 with free postage, a pretty reasonable saving i thought.

a while later he sends me an offer of $130 for both!

well, the way i see it he wants the $145 item for $15 off, the $75 item thrown in for free and free postage!

i replied 'remember my first reply about silly offers, consider yourself a guy who makes silly offers' and promptly added him to my BBL

id rather not risk it.

The man was mad, that price amounted to a good overall discount on both items if he had bothered to work it out.

I think the problem comes from the fact (as you said in a later post) that you don't actually have make an offer on any of your ads.

So it takes a certain type of brazenness or cheek to make an offer in those circumstances.

Most buyers on ebay probably wouldn't do it.

Then the fact that the tactic worked and you came down in price-well, you're dealing with someone who is a little bit bolder than average to start with, so it was on the cards he would try to push further.  Give an inch, they try to take a mile. I'm glad you stuck to your guns.

must be a silly offer season or sumthing, ive had 3 more in a week.

I remember last year receiving a silly offer on one of the things I do professionally. (Not on eBay. I don't have an eBay selling/advertising presence.)

The person said something along the lines of having found someone who could do what I do for a little less than my lowest price, albeit that the other person's lower price was only available during the week and their expertise was considerably less than mine in several key aspects. He said he would be willing to choose me if I would lower my price to the other person's weekday price. The tone of the communication was probably not intended to be patronising, presumptuous and peremptory, but that was the impression it gave.

I replied with great sweetness that the tiers of service with commensurate fees are as stated; however, for people in financial need, I was always open to negotiating the fees. If it was a case of financial hardship, all he needed to do was inform me of this and ask for a fee reduction based on that, and I would be happy to give a discount on that basis.

I heard no more from him.

Spoiler
(People looking to patronise others into agreeing to a discount simply because they're niggardly penny-pinchers have a curious aversion to wanting to appear to be in financial hardship.)

Well o really wouldn’t surprised if your prices are too high

Ok, so now you have two "no no"s

1.  You have replied to a threat that is a year old

2.  You have been rude to another seller

Why don't you set an offer limit so then you won't have to deal or see silly offers as they won't go through?

Because as David has said - he doesn't have Make an Offer on his listings.

3. Resurrecting an old thread to add nothing of any value.
