What Auspost basically told me when using your own packaging is anything 1KG or under is not cubed. Everything above 1KG is.

I think I will put that one to the test.  I'm going to put something in a biggish box, say around 35x35x20, that weighs around 800g, and find out if it would be sent at the 500g to 1kg rate of $12.20.  I'll let you know.
