This just happened to me. I bought and paid for a Samsung tablet with the buy it now option, rather than bid. The vendor then informed me that it had sold 10 mins earlier on gumtree and I am being refunded. I missed out on another auction opting for this one. Now I have nothing. wff!
That is one of the problems with eBay owning Gumtree. Not sure if it is still happening, but eartier this year Gumtree were offering a free eBay listing for anything listed on Gumtree. Sounds good having your item listed on two sites, but it's a nightmare to manage.
A Gumtree buyer contacts you saying they are interested in your item, I want to come and purchase it. You can't pause an eBay listing like you can on Gumtree, so you leave it running, and yet your are unsure if your Gumtree buyer will show (a lot of no-shows on Gumtree). If your buyer does eventually show, you've got to hope your eBay sale doesn't go through before you have had time to cancel it.

actually fox that is so true, they do offer that!!
so you can (now?) have cross platforms,
just perhaps you aren't allowed to mention it in your listing (like a disclaimer?) and as others say only not allowed on ebay when in auction format?
