I am not calling anyone a "troll "nor do I use that word when replying on this site (I actually hate that word) but the previous member has a point. I am one of those small sellers on Ebay that apparently, (according to one reply on this site from another seller) is happily on the way out the door. (Thanks for that vote of no confidence from other so called "sellers", I feel so much better now-not!) Each reply I have put onto this site, has been met with derision and or passive aggressive type retorts, which for many small sellers (including myself) would at least make you suspicious, that the replies are indeed coming from Ebay staff themselves, rather than from sellers. Replies I have received have included such terminology as "internal spat and whining" The fact remains, that Ebay's treatment of small, low volume independent sellers, (like myself) is nothing short of appallingly disproportionate. Negative feedback, refunds/returns, late postage (even at a minimal level) leaves the small seller in a terrible position, whilst large multi-national/international drop shippers that move huge volumes of items, can have pages and pages of complaints (I know of several large sellers with several pages of complaints- one current (International Seller) whom you yourself can look up, has 15 listed pages of Negative Feedback, but who clearly are not being penalized in the same way as I am) I failed to ship one item on time, another item was listed as not being sent (which ended up being a system generated error, that Ebay refuses to fix- despite admitting they are at fault) and had three returned item (two from buyers who were later banned from Ebay for misuse of the system) and two defects for apparently using the terminology (out of stock) which was correct at the time, as I was out of stock, and I immediately had all of my promotion/advertising rights removed and my visibility set to zero. This has made it virtually impossible to sell anything. (My sales have nose-dived to the point, I can't justify selling anything at this point in time, as I don't make enough to cover postage costs) Ebay's response to this (and their blatant ignoring of the fact, my feedback rating from my buyers is 100% POSTIVE (you can happily check this up yourself, if you would like to go and visit my site) was to send me a number of aggressive and (bordering on abusive emails) telling me I am a below standard seller and that they forecast in the next twelve months, I will continue to go downhill (thanks Ebay, for your vote of no-confidence) I also get constant messages to sell my stock at any price, just to make a sale. (Not particularly helpful as I have to purchase stock in order to sell it online through Ebay. How selling it below the cost of what I have purchased it for, is going to assist, me is a business practice, i have YET TO UNDERSTAND!!) I have also been told by several Ebay staff members (both via chat and on the phone) that removing my visibility/promotions and advertising rights, is to a) teach me a lesson, b) remind me what a bad/under-performing seller I am and c) to encourage me to be a better seller. (The last comment is so bizarre, it defies belief) I asked the last Ebay customer service officer I spoke with, to explain how effectively removing all my traffic for near on two months, (getting seller rights back is not automatic, well not in Australia anyway) is going to make things better for me, given I CAN'T SELL ANYTHING, the response I got, was the system does this and the system does that, (yae, lets all hail the SYSTEM!!!) (NOT!!) The system is WRONG, when it effectively sets out to destroy small, independent sellers, for issues that are often out of their control and which they have little sway in changing. I did manage to get four of my five listing defects removed-eventually, it took several chat sessions and three phone calls (Yae you think, great well done) well no actually. You would think that this would have brought back my visibility (which is still sitting at near zero, the only sales I have had since early April, are a few repeat customers, who have shown loyalty and continued to purchase off of me, knowing my Ebay shop is still active, and for that I am internally grateful) but NO, the system, will not give me back listing visibility and advertising until the 1st of June. So from early April to the 1st of June, I will continue to have zero visibility and no advertising. If this isn't deliberately setting out to destroy the small Seller then, please by all means, tell me what is!!!

I’m sorry to read of those issues. No one is disputing that eBay doesn’t treat every seller equally; there are hijacked accounts traipsing about merrily on eBay, and scammers who have automatic positive feedback wrapped in green… and accurate reports of sellers breaching the rules egregiously being dismissed.

And you’re both right (in my view) and wrong about small sellers on eBay. I constantly receive inducements via email / message on eBay to sell. $15 voucher, percentages off, special promotions… Next they’ll be offering me tea with the king. eBay don’t want those small sellers all leaving in droves, but they do want to use them for their own purposes. That’s another topic for another day.

What they will do is punish smaller sellers who act in ways outlined in the policy / help pages as attracting sanctions.

For instance, choosing out of stock when cancelling… It will earn you a drop in seller performance and if your level goes down too much (easy to do if you’re not a large seller), the hits start to come.

The best way to avoid this is to be fully on top of your stock levels. You can’t afford to take your eye off the ball.

You must get those items out within your stated time. Late shipment is going to ding you…

If you have buyers wanting to return items on the basis of not as described, you must resolve the requests within the timeframe stated in the MBG. In almost every case, there’s little point in arguing even if you’re very suspicious about the buyer.

If you can raise your prices by just a little (20 cents? whatever works out best for you), that extra can be put aside as self-insurance for the inevitable cases of dodgy buyers or even cases where you may have missed something…

Good luck.

Or simply don't list items that you don't have 😉

If you don't like it then don't use it.

Focus on the positive comments and NOT the negative.

As always, an excellent  post  by the Countess.

I put a couple of your category  items into a search and they're showing which is great as  while eBay

seemingly wont be happy until this site looks exactly like TEMU, your vintage items are the very foundation of eBay.

In case you missed it, here's a repost   to you  on  another thread   from a very experienced seller

Appreciate you are relatively new to ebay and want to get some sales up, but you could probably charge a little bit more for some of your items. ( thats not a comment used very often here ;). I sell similar things to you on one account and charge 20-50% more. Every extra dollar is all profit ( adjusted for ebays fees ) and helps cover issues such as this one.

Good luck with your sales

I'd call it an excellent post - if one item - just one had been sold - with problems a seller has to deal with.

Not sure how some who only ' buy ' - can give advice on selling when never having done so.

In all the years I have been selling - I've received one ding - the item was too clean - deal with that one. LOL

"Not sure how some who only ' buy ' - can give advice on selling when never having done so"

That's an interesting thought although not one I necessarily agree with.

I don't believe it's  a one size  fits all.

One of the most  prolific posters on the boards was Lyndal who  gave advice to everyone about everything, an Honoured Contributor and a buyer only.

Having been around this place on and off since 2002 as both a seller and a buyer , I've  seen a lot of faces come and go.

I'm hoping he doesnt mind me saying this, but I'd  recommend members take Padi's advice any day  over some  of the sellers'  replies  we see from time to time.

However, next time I mention someone who I think has given excellent advice, I'll be sure to add  IMO

In many ways I have to agree Casey - BUT - having sold for the past 20 years - noted the changes - and there have been many - it's simply not the place Lyndal then knew.

Yes - she certainly has been sadly missed.

As for Padi - always good advice - only gives facts and doesn't stray into the little known areas of selling - besides he's very kind to animals and guests.

I suppose my beef is with those who give an opinion - not an experienced opinion - never having even listed an item for sale - never fought a BOT over right and wrong etc etc etc.

If only a buyer stick to helping others buy.

Thanks Casey and Dom, I try my best with what I post and thankfully rarely get it wrong, though sometimes I have to bite my tongue at some of the responses by so-called "experienced" members who can regularly post carp, or attack others with their condescending remarks or the passive/agressive posts.
