too late, already lost 770 bucks

i feel like an idiot, lol, alto my bank was quick in contacting me informing me that some western union thing has taken X amount and wanted to know if i authourised this transaction, naturally i said NO

you may have to change your ebay passwords and such too....phone ebay. I clicked on one of those once too....not exactly the same but the sale actually sounded familiar, I was in a rush, away from home....and boom. They hijacked my ebay account...although this is your paypal account...it will be linked to all your ebay stuff too...wouldn't it?? You poor thing.....ring your bank and change the account number or whatever, linked to your paypal account.....all those things...jilly

As both Paypal and eBay tell  you - don't click on links in emails.

to all that read this thread . . . . this is why it is a good idea to open a bank account that is used only for your eBay activity.

I have a bank account that has a debit card attached to it.  I use this for my eBay activity and top up the balance to about $200 when it gets low.  The maximum amount that I could be fleeced of if my PayPal account was compromised is the balance in that account.  When I know that I am going to bid strongly on an item and it will cost a bit I deposit more money into the account to cover the amount I intend to bid.  If I don't win that item I can withdraw some/all of that deposit from an ATM so as to keep the balance in the account low.  There is no way I could ever lose $770 as the balance is never up that high.

Another good reason for doing this is that I have a record of all my payments simply by looking at my bank account details.  I don't have to sort through my main bank account details to find the ones that are eBay related.

I am not going to recommend any one bank, but I know that the NAB have a fee-free account and that Westpac have an account that has a $5/month charge.  The NAB branch where I live closes at 4pm, which makes it hard to get to after work, and the Westpac branch is open til 5pm making it easier to get to for deposits.  Pick a bank that has an easily accessible branch, or one that you already bank with so you can do an online transfer of funds.

Either spoof@paypal.com  or spoof@ebay.com  depending on who the emails are supposed to be from.  Just forward the whole email.
