Yes it does look very similar and perhaps yours is coral encrusted.

If you are in a major city, it might be worthwhile to take it into the main library or any place that displays a lot of sea like fossils.

Here in Melbourne Gardenworld has a couple of experts on fossils, you could even email pics and ask.
