On face value, it sounds to me you and the buyer were both unaware it had a fault.
It is a faulty item and not sold as such.
If it was me, I would suggest the buyer return it for a full refund and I would take it to someone that can repair it.
I don't believe it's impossible to repair.
Then resell it repaired stating it has been repaired.
