I lived in the south Island in the 80's for about 2 years....blllllllllinking cold but a great place....have an uncle in Invercargal....you can see the satelites pass over down there...even bllllllllinking colder. I was hitchhiking down south when the Aussies were accused of underarm bowling...anyone with an Aussie accent was the 'enemy'...lol. sat on the side of a road for like ages....lots of sheep...didn't see any gumboots though. Like, I wasn't a cricket fan anyway....so had no idea why the kiwis were so agro over it all...but I got to Invercargal...with a Christian family...don't even ask....lol...they didn't follow cricket either.

The underarm bowling incident was ages ago, but yes, the Kiwis were outraged over it.
The last place I lived there was in Invercargill... very cold.
