Nothing beats a real free range chook egg.

The Egg corporation is trying to change the meaning of free range which currently means there can onlly be 1500 chooks in 1 hectare. Now my girls wander in .7 of a hectare (I think) and they have plenty of space but you wouldn't want too many more as they do damage the ground a little.

So the Egg corp want to change that to 20,000 chooks per hectare and to "keep them safe" they want to be able to debeak them. Now i'm wondering what the difference will then be between battery chooks and free range other than the free rangers will be out in the weather.

Fortunately, the QLD government has refused to acknowledge eggs from those chooks (if the move goes ahead) as free ranged. Hopefully all the other states will follow suit.
