(1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT) Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them.

There are instructions for Christian slave owners to treat their slaves well.

Eph 6:9 ) And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favouritism with him. (See also Ephesians 6:7-8)

(Coll 4:1 ) Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.

thats right free thinker bob - the KKK

the cross of Christ the most sacred item to Christians used by the KKK to bring fear and death

its a bit like 'cop it to give us a good name' which is understandable in the context of the times, when that was your lot in life. its a bit difficult for 21st century westerners to cop though .

keep reading ellie, you will get to Philemon - which is the ending of Christian slavery.

of course what you are missing is that we are all slaves to sin and that Jesus is here for any who want to be free.

@best.buys wrote:

typical, martini - try reading it in context. your not to do it then gives you the punishment for it. talks about atonement for the sin and you should by rights be put to death for it.

And the context is? I've just gone back to it and it is pretty clear:

If a man sleeps with a woman who is a slave girl promised to another man but who has not been ransomed or given her freedom, there must be due punishment. Yet they are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed.

All will be forgiven if the man brings  a ram to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting for a guilt offering to the LORD.

Well of course, a ram! That's fine then lol.

Which bit did I get wrong? What context is missing exactly?

Ahhh. So you are suggesting that the word slave was only a metaphor?

This is what I was referring to earlier Gavo.Re Judgement.

Romans 2:1:29

Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. ...

does anyone remember when the anglicans published the new testament on its lonesome ? 'the good news bible' ? this thread contains the reasons for that. confusion between two distinctly different approaches .

still not getting it izab, just saying what the Bible says.

martini still refuses to read it all, although could be he has no understanding of words like atonement.

remeber also that the Bible tells us continuelly to be aware of false teachers.

bob has brought up the KKK before as "christian" but their beliefs is totally differant to what the Bible says.

never can get the point across on here that just bacause someone says they are a Christian does not make it so.
