The troughs were made of hollowed out logs and sealed with tin caps and hessian bags. The hessian swells when it is wet and fills in the holes around the tin.
I can't remember the name of the property this is on, but it's in the Pilliga forrest and that's the son and grandson of the bloke that built it. The old fella was a kid and helped his Dad to build it, so it's about 60-70 years old
