I hope you're right about the "flavour of the month" Martini, but something tells me that the existence of the NSW MEOCS indicates the problem is serious and long term.

If you are following the news of the last few days, it sounds as if they have hit their peak and the gang is losing their foothold.

The shootings are all related to splits and feuds in their own gang. History shows that when gangs turn on themselves there is enormous bloodshed and then the gangs fizzle.

Add to this that many of the leaders are now dead or with all the raids and sentencings in the last month or so, many are in gaol long term, I suspect we will only see this gang in power mode for the next 5 years as they scale back.

I hope you're right because this gun violence has been going on for too many yrs.  According to a detective interviewed on Sky News - there is long way to go in gang fight.   It is no longer a case of an innocent bystander getting killed, it has already happened.   It is quite scary actually.   When you talk to people here, read the local newspaper, they don't feel safe.

Bondi used to be pretty wild in the 80's, I remember going to the pub with my husband and he would say 'they can kill each other as long as they don't spill my drink" the fights and brawls were fierce and security was nothing like it is today.

What about Cabramatta? There used to be a lot of drug related crime there.....shootings etc.

Yep, Cabramatta then, Lakemba now.

I remember not wanting to visit Cabramatta.

I used to always go there to do Asian ingredients shopping in the 80's because you simply couldn't buy the stuff here.

I love Asian supermarkets.  We have a little Chinatown here.  Its great.

The New South Wales police force has launched a drive for more members from different ethnic backgrounds.

It says that applicants from diverse cultures bring specialised skills to the job.

"What we're targetting in this recruitment campaign amongst other things are members of the asian communities, the Indian community and the middle eastern community", a police spokesman said.
