Soul, the leaf of the apple is supposed to be in front of the apple, and not translucent. Same with the ballooons. When I cake paint over the overlapped areas, the paint picks up the colour of the area underneath, and hence is too dark. How can I fix this problem? Paint the overlapped areas white, and then paint over them?

You'd need to use the paint without water added..if you already are, then maybe wait until the underneath paint is dry (doesn't take long).

I like the effect with the balloons though I can see the problem with the leaf.

I  haven't used any water, and I've waited until the paint is dry before painting on top. Maybe I need to use water to dilue the area that will be painted on top, so that the colour is not strong enough to push through the top layer of paint. Very puzzling.  

That is strange..usually acrylics will paint over any colour.  Try what you suggested..paint with white first or you could try mixing the paints.

What brand are they moonlight ?  I ask because some cheaper brands have very little actual pigment.  The ones at the cheap shops, about $3 for a large tube are fine, think they are mont marte brand.

The way they are behaving is like gouche paint...opaque.

I bought these paints at OfficeWorks about 7 months ago, for $12. Kid's stuff, I suppose.. 🙂

yep think you blew your money...when you're at red dot next have a look. you only need red,blue,yellow,black and white...so about $15 if they're $3 each and the tubes are quite big.

That bird looks pretty good to me, soul. Not sure how much more it can be improved.
