my point being that it is incredibly rude for her to say anything about anyone else's shape, and she should have realised how hurtful such a comment could be.

A clear case of: "I know what I meant to say, and if I didnt make my meaning clear enuogh, that's your problem, not mine.

Or to put it another way,

"I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant".
