I felt terribly sorry for the boys last night, serving dessert over two and a half hours after their disastrous main course, only to have the judges (and everybody else) find it virtually inedible, but I'm afraid they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Nevertheless, that didn't give David and Corinne the right to openly gloat over the boys' misfortune, and I was so disappointed when they scored insufficient points to remain in the competition.

Yes, I know there are still 2 contestants to go but I can't see either of them cooking anywhere near as poorly as the boys or the Queensland couple, which is a bit of a pity as David in particular almost makes me ashamed to be a Queenslander. 😞

At last......someone on the show who can actually cook. The Mum's from SA did very very well (and I thought the dessert looked like it would have been yummy in spite of the judges comments)

That's cos they're mums.   Mums have to be good at time management.

Did you notice while they were still preparing the meal, one still had time

to sweep the floor.  Cleaning as you go - another mum thing.

 

I reckon they are serious contenders

As highly impressed as I was by the SA mums' effort last night, I seriously question their use of mud cake as the dessert base instead of sponge. Mud cake is heavy and stodgy at the best of times, and it was definitely at odds with the delicacy of the other elements.

I've noticed that throughout the current series, just about every other contestant who has deviated from the 'original' recipe did so at their peril, yet despite Manu & Pete having said so on numerous occasions, the mums still chose the safer option of not taking the risk of baking a sponge (it is a competition after all).

Also, I wonder why they didn't serve the roe (the extra orange bit) with the scallops, as it is arguably one of the tastiest parts of the animal. As it happened they still scored a perfect 10 from both judges even though I was waiting for somebody to criticise the omission of the roe from that dish.

Having said that, however, if they maintain that very high standard, they are going to be extremely hard to defeat IMO.

I have just seen the Promo for Sundays show.  And the smirk has been wiped off the girl's face, she is the one who said she should be the third judge.  

I'm glad they removed the roe, I think it looks and tastes better without it!
I did hear it's a state by state thing and most West Aussies discard it? Don't know how true that is.

Mugssy, I can only comment on Qld & NSW as I've never eaten Tassie Scallops anywhere else, but I can't even recall an occasion where they weren't served without their roe, and if that had happened I'd have complained bitterly. Like me, most people I know actually consider the roe to be a delicacy.

Funny isn't it I eat out quite a lot and I can't remember the last time I was served with it on. Having said that the ones for sale in Coles still have it on which I object to coz I just chuck it away. Lol
