I have been through 4 cyclones. All you can do is take shelter in a safe place and stock up.
The feeding frenzy on TV was appalling and just another example of sensationalising to up ratings. They were still on it this morning, on every channel and your could see the disappointment that it wasn't as bad as predicted.
Calm reporting is needed in these situations and we have been through many cyclones in Australia so we know what to expect.
In the tropics they have a siren system on TV and radio updating the category. They don't pant to spread panic.

I suspect it'll do more damage in the long run, because people will get used to the over dramatising of potential damage and not heed a really dangerous cyclone.
I've lived through 6 cyclones,,.one of which dumped my entire house off its stumps lol...then did a U turn and hit us again. It was a cat 4 or 5 (Jason)
Then straights after we had to fly out to the bush to check if people had been hurt and the missionary pilot decided to cry and pray as the winds smashed the little plane around....thats cos the cyclone had turned around ...so we had to whallop him.
"Mayday mayday mayday! Praise The Lord, forgive me my sins..." ( hands off controls in prayer position lol)
Whallop! "Bleep The Lord, just fly the plane!"
All the building in the bush were gone,,,the trees were completely skinned on the windward side...but all the people were ok. All they needed was cigarettes haha.

It may or may not work depending on how things go for them. They are from Oz Cyclone Chasers.

I follow these guys... they are great
hope everyone is ok... it is going to be a long treck down the coast and who knows where it will fade out... tracking down south as a cat 1 storm is still pretty concerning.
