I don't have a pic, but years ago my (totally domestically challenged) husband decided to make a cake for my birthday.
Apparantly, he bought a cake mix packet, stuffed that up, went and bought another one and still stuffed it up, then running out of time he improvised and...........
presented me with a mound of beautifully shaped mashed potato, on a plate with a pretty napkin and 32 candles shoved into the potato.
At least the candles were lit LOL

I started this thread cos so many people were feeling inadequate about
cake baking and decorating.
Some of my efforts look a lot like those above, lol

It's a bit of a strange photography challenge. There's nothing terribly challenging about taking a good photo of a beautifully decorated cake 🙂

That's why I asked the question on that thread -
Are we voting on the artistic merits of the photo or the
dribble-worthiness of the cake?
IMO some of the cakes are brilliant but the photos are ordinary.
A photo competition should be judged on the photo, not the subject.
No offence to anyone

I have been voting on both the looks of the cake and the photo, thinking that a really bad pic would not do justice to even a great cake.
Both mermaids are shockers 😛 above

Apparently one year my mum forgot to put butter in my cake mix. Didn't realise until she had baked it. Hard as a rock, she threw it out the front door for the birds to eat, landed on the concrete path (didn't break) and all the local wildlife took about 2 weeks to eat the **bleep** thing!
