Is this similar to what we used to call "French Knitting" with a loom consisting  of 4 nails driven into the top of a cotton reel?

I have watched TV show episodes on Youtube, cooking videos and craft 'how to' videos. Watched how to crochet yesterday.
It is good for 'how to do' clips because you can pause and go back over things you don't get first off.

I used a youtube clip to help me with silicone sealing the showers.

 

I also used it to learn about making Fimo clay miniatures and another one for making foil beads and jewellery but I haven't tried that yet.

It was also called 'Knitting Nancy'.  This thing has waaay more spikes.

It's fiendish. And expensive.  And the kids are hooked.  Boys as well.

My grandson's school encourages them because it feels it makes the

kids more socially active.  Yeah, let's get something else to get the kids

sitting around and not being physically active!!

A lot of schools (NSW) have banned students from wearing or trading or selling loom bands at school. They fight over sales and swaps.

 Back in the fifties they banned swap cards for the same reasons

 Or is that just a Melbourne thing?

In the 1990's I remember french skipping (the 'ropes' were made with elastic and often just from rubber/lacky bands looped together) was BANNED and all these elastic ropes were confiscated......goodness knows why

nope. The loom use used to make the bracelets, they are made from small rubber bands
