The apostrophe was for the contracted "dog is" to dog's. Without the apostrophe it would have been dogs, which as you know is plural for dog.

well, I am not 100% certain but...... the ' denotes ownership................ I think the dogs cute 

or maybe

the dogs' cute............ but might be wrong, now it's bugging me....

It would be the dog's cute as in the dog is cute, or

the dogs cute face, or the dog's face... I think.

We need the grammar nazis.

Looks right to me.

His dog's cute face."

Can't argue against Quilts she has a PHD behind her name.
