This is where I thought the dummy name came from for a pacifier. Dummy = not the real thing. Like a mannequin is also called a dummy.

"A dummy, the dictionary tells us, is a counterfeit object. So what is the genuine article? If a bottle and teat is a dummy wet-nurse, what corresponds to the counterfeit object stuffed into a baby's mouth? A dummy is a counterfeit nipple"

my family has always referred to them as binkies. no idea why though!

Is the picture of the pink Dummy real, or a novelty item?

Hi Sineater....thought I'd answer you in here, if that's okay?

The flower is a fuschia and yes, they do hang down like that.

Hubby is actually the one with the green thumb though!

Stunning flower, Polly.  I had to google it as I've not heard of it before.

My Mum used to have a lot of fuschias in her garden and in pots by the front door (in NZ). They like shade and damp soil from memory. They are lots of beautiful varieties, some with frilly bits like ballerina skirts.

I used to collect fuschias.  Unfortunately a 10 year drought in Melbourne

finally did them in.  Water restrictions,  Have a look here and you will see

why I loved them so much
