12v need transformers. 240v don't need transformers.
The former cheap to install, the latter more expensive.
Light output the same but make sure you get warm white LEDs.

There shouldn't be any heat from an LED. If there is there is something wrong.
Heat from downlight occurs with halogen fittings.

down lights that have started fires, is because the insulation is put on top of the lights. There should be no insulation batts around the lights.

thanks for responses. I have been looking at different lights. I started in Wide World of Lights, but when I spoke to an electrician, they warned me not to buy them as they don't last very long.
Does anyone know about light angles, power outputs, electricity usage etc??
