Re: downlights

All I know is to go for the ones that don't heat up so much that they cause fires.

A particular kind is known for starting fires especially if there is insulation.

Re: downlights

12v need transformers. 240v don't need transformers.

The former cheap to install, the latter more expensive.

Light output the same but make sure you get warm white LEDs.

Re: downlights

There shouldn't be any heat from an LED. If there is there is something wrong.

Heat from downlight occurs with halogen fittings.

Re: downlights

down lights that have started fires, is because the insulation is put on top of the lights. There should be no insulation batts around the lights.

Re: downlights

thanks for responses. I have been looking at different lights. I started in Wide World of Lights, but when I spoke to an electrician, they warned me  not to buy them as they don't last very long.

Does anyone know about light angles, power outputs, electricity usage etc??
