As the cartoonist said, he based on cartoon on photos of people treating the Israeli bombardment of Gaza as a spectator show.


I should also point out that the complaint to the Press Council was not about the narrative of the cartoon. The complaint to the Press Council specifically was about the character being portrayed having a big nose.

 

The Herald rightly points out that all of the cartoonists characters have big noses. They did not pull this cartoon because of this. They pulled the cartoon for another reason altogether - because they felt that the religious symbols connected to the action being portayed was religiously sensitive at this time.
