It's funny reading how some won't buy food because it's Halal, so never eating rice or pasta again unless it's Haram? and as far as Zabihah goes personally I don't see how its that cruel. Many people around the world kill their own animals for eating by slitting their throats and not for religious reasons, I've seen it done in Australia and I've seen it done in Greece - it isn't pleasant but death rarely is.

correct me if i'm wrong but isnt the OP's issue

paying for the accreditation?  a lot of the items on your

list would not need to be certified.

Exactly. I just checked my rice and pasta packets and there is no Halal safe label on them. However, if i go shopping and have to choose between a patsa that has an Halal label on it and one that doesnt....i'll pick the one that doesnt

whatever, both packs of rice will still be Halal so for those saying they will not eat Halal food, eating could be extremely difficult.

Actually, to me, neither the rice or pasta are Halal as i do not follow or believe in Halal. To me, they are a packet of pasta and a packet of rice

The posts on this thread from some of us are pretty clear in that we will not buy food that has an Halal certification label on it.

Im sorry you are having trouble understanding that

I don't believe for one second that a lot of the complaints have anything to do with cost

i see so that's where the confusion came from and

you posting the mostly irrelevant food list lol

what i see on this thread are comments with specific

reasons as to why some oppose payments for the accreditation and ritual slaughter.

no one suggested they would boycott all food that Muslims consider permissible

Woman LOLSmiley LOLRobot LOLMan LOLCat LOL

It is not an irrelevent food list.

Think about it this way.

A Muslim (or Jewish) family wants to buy some basic things that we take for granted like a bag of apples. But apples (and pretty much every fruit on the shelf) will be polished. Often with an animal fat based product. That means it is not halal and they can't buy the apples.

In the same way that a diabetic or a caeliac has to scrutinise EVERY single item in their trolley, so to would a practicing muslim or jew.

Marking items halal will make their lives easier.

But regardless of all of the above, let's not forget that it is CORPORATIONS that are making the decision to certify. I have never read a single article (not even in the biased Telegraph) where a muslim or jewish body have INSISTED that our supermarkets rebrand their products halal.

Islam imposes halal tax on EVERYONE, whether you follow islam or not and the cash goes to TERRORISM.

reread the title of this thread. It says Halal CHOICE.

Islam does not impose a halal tax on ANYONE in Australia. Some companies make a commercial decision (CHOICE) to have their products Halal certified, some, selling identical products,  don't. If a product has an halal certification label on it, consumers can CHOOSE whether or not to buy it. How does that amount to a tax imposed on EVERYONE.

You highlighted a select portion of my statement: lets start again: This is what I posted (in italic).

*******************************

Jews impose kosher tax onto Jews and they use the money to fund Jewish churches. Jews wont ask a Catholic or anyone else to pay kosher tax.

Whereas; Islam imposes halal tax on EVERYONE, whether you follow islam or not and the cash goes to TERRORISM.

*******************************

Even vegemite is halal certified which is why I don't buy it. I will not support hamas, IS, ISIS, alqaeda, hezbollah and other terrorist groups. Some companies are halal certified but hide this fact by not showing it on their products for fear of losing sales. Luckily the following websites tell people what halal really is and which companies support halal, so we can steer clear of them.

Now there’s of list by credible independent organisations providing reliable unbiased and informed information not designed to promote any other agenda, if ever I saw one (not).

I don't care who labels what and if it costs more, so be it. Frustrating at the very least when you have to shop for special dietary needs and things are not labelled correctlt.

No tax however innocuous that is IMPOSED on everyone without their consent, by a religios group is acceptable.

No matter how small the end profit of this tax is,   it does go towards terrorism. It's allright for many on here  to ignore it but if PM Abbott imposed NEW a tax on ALL foodstuffs without it going to the people for scrutiny, getting it passed through parliament and making it law  then where would be uproar.

This is a hidden tax, it is unconstitutional, it goes partway to funding terrorism.
