The AFP officer was injured more seriously, with multiple stab wounds to the neck, abdomen and head. He remains in hospital in a stable condition. Police requested their identifies not be published.

* Melbourne police are on high alert following the fatal shooting of teenager Abdul Numan Haider, with new information now suggesting the 18-year old didn’t act alone.
Chief Commissioner Ken Lay told ABC 774 that on the night of Haider’s death, intelligence suggests the teen had been talking to other people before initiating the stabbing attack on the two officers.

“There’s some information that he was certainly talking to other people around the time,” Mr Lay said.

**The Police Commisioner said that is incorrect and is only speculation that the deceased planned to behead the policemen.
